GUMBY AND THE ART OF STOP-MOTION ANIMATION

"The simple moveable clay characters Gumby and Pokey were introduced on The Howdy Doody Show in 1956 and soon became the stars of their own show. For fifty years, Gumby, brought to life by Art Clokey's beguiling stop-motion animation, has endured as a beloved character, a pop culture icon, and an immensely popular consumer product. The exhibition Gumby! includes props, toys, and prototypes, and also explores the creative process through photographs, storyboards, and the actual set from a recent Gumby production. A gallery minitheater will show Gumby television shows from the last five decades. Museum visitors will be able to make their own short Gumby films at the animation stands in Behind the Screen."
